What do you need to know about French flower customs?

France takes flowers seriously, and Bordeaux — a city that treats beauty as a civic duty, from the golden facades of Place de la Bourse mirrored in the miroir d'eau to the antique shops of the Chartrons — is no exception. Two customs are worth knowing. On May 1, the French give sprigs of muguet (lily of the valley) for luck, a tradition so beloved that florists build their whole day around it. And when invited to dinner, arriving with flowers for the host is simply expected. Our Bordeaux florists live inside these codes; they arrange your order the day it is delivered, in the style a French recipient will recognize as done properly — never a box of loose stems to assemble.

When is the ideal time to send flowers to Bordeaux?

French Mother's Day — la Fête des Mères — falls in late May or early June, later than in many countries, and it is the year's biggest flower occasion; order a few days ahead. Valentine's Day is strong here too, as befits a city this good-looking. The rest of the calendar runs on birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, and congratulations — Bordeaux is a major university city and a magnet for young professionals, so graduations and new-job flowers flow steadily. Fall grape harvest season brings visitors and celebrations across the surrounding vineyards, and a bouquet waiting at a rented apartment in the old town makes a memorable welcome for someone you love traveling there.

How does your bouquet get made and delivered?

Your order reaches a florist working in Bordeaux, who selects from the freshest available stock and delivers by hand — to a flat near the Garonne's crescent quaysides, a house out in Caudéran, or an office in the center. Standard timing is 1-2 business days; same-day is often available for orders before noon local time, and since France is on Central European Time, senders in the Americas should order in their morning. You can order in English or Spanish, your message is delivered exactly as written (French accents included), and checkout accepts cards, PayPal, Shop Pay, or lets you pay with Bitcoin directly.

Elsewhere in France, we deliver to Lyon, Montpellier, and beyond — see the full network on our flower delivery across France page. Since 2005, with a 4.8/5 rating from more than 377 verified reviews, our rule for Bordeaux is the French rule: flowers should be fresh, local, and beautifully finished.
