When is the best season to send flowers to Wellington?

Remember the hemisphere flip: Wellington's spring runs September to November, and its summer peaks over Christmas and January. That reshuffles the flower calendar in ways senders from the north often miss. Valentine's Day lands in late summer here, Mother's Day in May falls in autumn, and the freshest local abundance — peonies, ranunculus, garden roses — arrives when the northern hemisphere is heading into winter. There's no bad month to send, but knowing the season helps you pick a bouquet that matches what's genuinely fresh in New Zealand at the time.

What should you know about Wellington before choosing a bouquet?

Wellington is compact, hilly and famously windy — the harbour city where houses climb the slopes from Oriental Bay and the cable car hauls people up to Kelburn. It's also New Zealand's arts and government capital, with a creative streak running straight down Cuba Street. That personality shows in local taste: Wellingtonians tend to appreciate arrangements with character — natives and textured greenery alongside classic blooms — over stiff formal sprays. Because your florist is local, they'll build something that suits the city, using stems that survived the flight to the top of the North Island better than any courier box would.

How does delivery work across the capital?

Your order goes to a florist working in Wellington itself, who makes the arrangement on the day of delivery and brings it by hand — to an apartment in Te Aro, an office on Lambton Quay, a house up in Brooklyn or out in the Hutt Valley. Nothing is shipped pre-packed. If the recipient is out, the florist finds a safe spot or coordinates a second attempt. Your message card is delivered exactly as you typed it, which matters when the words are the real gift.
