Do name days really matter in Ostrava?

They do — svátek, the name day, is one of the most reliable flower occasions in Czech life. Every date in the Czech calendar carries a name, and when your name comes up, colleagues, friends, and family are expected to mark it, usually with flowers or chocolate. For someone in Ostrava, a bouquet on their svátek signals that you know the culture, not just the person. Beyond name days, the big dates are International Women's Day on 8 March, Valentine's Day, Czech Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May, and 1 May, when couples traditionally kiss under a blossoming cherry tree — spring romance is practically institutional here.

Why choose a florist based in the city?

Ostrava is a city that reinvented itself. The blast furnaces of Lower Vítkovice, once the roaring heart of Czech steel, are now a national industrial monument turned cultural playground, and every July the Colours of Ostrava festival fills the site with music fans from across Europe. The city's social life runs through Stodolní Street, famous nationwide for its density of bars, while daily life spreads from the old centre around Masaryk Square to the vast planned district of Poruba. A florist who works these neighbourhoods delivers to them quickly and correctly — and your arrangement is made fresh in the city that day, never shipped boxed across borders. That freshness is a real advantage in a place with proper Central European winters, when a warm-toned bouquet against grey skies hits hardest.
