Florist Sofia - Blumen Bulgarien

Sending flowers to Sofia from abroad works like this: you order online in USD (flat $14.95 service fee, bouquets from about $55), and a florist working in Sofia arranges your bouquet fresh and hand-delivers it, typically within 1-2 business days — often the same day if ordered before noon.

Sofia sits at the foot of Vitosha mountain, whose snow-capped silhouette closes the view down Vitosha Boulevard for much of the year. This is the capital of a country with one of the deepest flower cultures in Europe — Bulgaria's Rose Valley supplies rose oil to the world's perfume houses — and Sofians give flowers with the confidence of people who grew up around them.

What flower customs should I know before sending to Sofia?

One rule matters above all: give an odd number of stems. Even-numbered bouquets are reserved for funerals in Bulgaria, so a dozen roses is a mistake here — eleven or thirteen is the loving choice. Our partner florists in Sofia build arrangements with this in mind. Name days (imen den) are celebrated as warmly as birthdays, so if your recipient is called Georgi, Ivan, Maria or Nikola, their saint's day is a perfect excuse for flowers.

When are Sofia's biggest flower-giving dates?

Spring arrives loaded. Baba Marta on March 1 opens the season with red-and-white martenitsa tokens, followed hard by March 8, Women's Day, the busiest florist day of the Bulgarian year. Then come St. Lazar's Day and Palm Sunday (Tsvetnitsa — literally "flower day", the name day of everyone named after a flower), and Orthodox Easter. December 8, the students' holiday, and graduation balls in May add youthful bursts of bouquet-buying. Ordering two or three days ahead around these dates is wise.
