Why do flowers mean so much in Faaa?

Faaa, the commune just west of Papeete and home to Tahiti's international airport, lives and breathes flowers in a way few places do. It is also French Polynesia's most populous commune — a working town of airport, port and hotel staff rather than a resort. The tiare Tahiti — the small white gardenia that perfumes the whole island — is French Polynesia's emblem, worn behind the ear, strung into the flower garlands draped over travellers in the arrivals hall a few minutes from these neighbourhoods, and given at nearly every meaningful moment. Sending an arrangement here is not a foreign gesture; it slots straight into local culture. Our florist works with what grows gloriously in this climate, so expect lush tropical character rather than a temperate-style bouquet flown in from far away.

What goes into a Tahitian-style arrangement?

The island's own abundance: tiare when in season, frangipani — tipanie in Tahitian — hibiscus, heliconia and bird of paradise, set against glossy tropical foliage. Flower crowns and garlands are an everyday art form here, worn to church, to celebrations and to farewells, so recipients in Faaa read flowers fluently. A bouquet composed the same morning by a local hand simply belongs.

When is the best time to send flowers to Tahiti?

July is the season of Heiva i Tahiti, the islands' great festival of dance, song and traditional sport, staged largely in neighbouring Papeete, when families gather and celebration is everywhere — a wonderful moment for a surprise delivery. French holidays are observed too: Mother's Day in late May, Valentine's Day in February, plus the territory's own dates like Missionaries' Day on March 5. In late November, the rising of the Pleiades marks Matari'i i ni'a, the traditional opening of the season of abundance. And because so many people from Faaa work in tourism, aviation and the port, with relatives spread across France and beyond, birthday and new-baby flowers sent from overseas family are among the most common orders we deliver here.

How does hand delivery work in Faaa?

Faaa stretches from the lagoon shore up into steep green valleys, and addresses can be informal by European standards — which is exactly why a local florist matters. Ours knows the neighbourhoods between the airport and the hills and delivers by hand, the same day the bouquet is made, in a climate where the warm, rainier months from November to April demand freshness above all. If you order before noon local time, same-day delivery is often possible. Write your card in English, Spanish, French or Tahitian; it is delivered exactly as you type it.
