Florist Horta - Azoren Blumen

Getting flowers to Horta is easier than its mid-Atlantic address suggests: order online in US dollars and a florist on Faial island arranges your bouquet fresh, hand-delivered within 1-2 working days. Prices start around $55 and the service fee is a flat $14.95 — the same as anywhere else we deliver.

Why is Faial the perfect island to send flowers to?

Faial is nicknamed the Blue Island, and the reason is floral: hedgerows of hydrangeas divide its green pastures, and in summer the whole island seems edged in blue. Sending flowers to a place like this is not carrying coals to Newcastle — it is speaking the local language. The island wears its drama lightly, too: at its western tip, the Capelinhos volcano rose from the sea in the eruption of 1957-58, half-burying the old lighthouse in ash and adding new land to the island within living memory. Horta's florists work with that abundance, arranging everything fresh on the island on delivery day, so your bouquet arrives hydrated and full rather than flattened from a courier box shipped across the ocean.

When do the hydrangeas actually bloom?

The famous blue walls peak from roughly June through September, when the hedgerows lining Faial's roads and pasture boundaries are in full colour. That is worth knowing if you are timing a gift to coincide with a family visit, but it does not limit the florists: Horta's shops work year-round, and the mild oceanic climate — rarely truly cold, rarely truly hot — is kind to cut flowers in every season. A winter bouquet here is, if anything, more of an event, arriving when the island's own colour has gone quiet.

What occasions matter in Horta?

August brings Semana do Mar — Sea Week — when the marina fills with regattas, music and half the island celebrating its Atlantic identity; birthdays and reunions that fall that week get an automatic festival backdrop. Horta's marina is itself famous among sailors, its walls painted with murals left by visiting yacht crews for good luck before the crossing, and Peter's Café Sport, the harbourside bar that has welcomed transatlantic crews for generations, remains the town's unofficial living room. The town has welcomed generations of arrivals and farewells — exactly the moments flowers are made for. Mother's Day in May, Valentine's, and the summer festas of the parishes round out the calendar.

Is delivery reliable on a small island?

Very — small works in your favour. Horta faces the towering cone of Pico across the channel, and deliveries cover the town — from the streets behind the marina to the quiet curve of Porto Pim bay — and the parishes around it. Include a phone number so the florist can coordinate, particularly for rural addresses where houses go by name. Your gift message is delivered exactly as written, in English, Spanish or Portuguese you paste in, and checkout accepts cards, PayPal, Shop Pay — or you can pay with Bitcoin, which feels fitting for a harbour town that has always connected continents.

Across the archipelago, we also deliver to Ponta Delgada on São Miguel and to Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira. See flower delivery across the Azores for every island we reach — one flat fee, USD pricing, 4.8/5 from 377+ verified reviews.
