What flowers are used for Día de Muertos?

The best-known Day of the Dead flower is cempasúchil (Mexican marigold, Tagetes erecta). Families use its bright orange petals and strong scent on the ofrenda and to mark a path home for the loved ones they remember. White flowers are also traditional, especially for the children remembered on November 1, and purple is a common color for mourning.

How to choose

For the family altar (ofrenda): orange and yellow bouquets, sunflowers or a fruit basket, since fresh fruit is a classic ofrenda offering.
To show sympathy: white roses, white lilies or the Isle of White arrangement. Red roses are not part of this collection; for condolences we recommend soft white and pastel tones.
