What is Carnival season like in Cayenne?

Long — famously so. Cayenne's Carnival runs from Epiphany in January all the way to Ash Wednesday, one of the longest in the world, with parades rolling through the streets every Sunday and the masked touloulou balls where costumed women, disguised from head to toe, choose their dance partners — and by tradition the men may not refuse. The season closes with the burning of the effigy of King Vaval on Ash Wednesday, when the city dresses in black and white to mourn him until the next January. It is months of celebration, reunion and dressing up, and flowers slide naturally into that season: congratulations, thank-yous, and apologies after a dance gone wrong all find their way into bouquets.

Which French traditions carry over to French Guiana?

As an overseas department of France, Cayenne keeps the French calendar: Mother's Day on the last Sunday of May, Bastille Day in July, and the full run of French public holidays, including La Toussaint on 1 November, when families here — as across France — bring flowers to remember those they have lost. Layered over that is a deeply Creole city: the central market of Cayenne bursts with tropical produce, spices and colour, the palm-lined Place des Palmistes anchors the centre of town, and the remains of Fort Cépérou look down from the hill where the city was founded in the seventeenth century. Local florists work both registers: classic French bouquet-making with the tropical blooms this equatorial climate grows effortlessly — heliconias, gingers and anthuriums alongside the familiar roses.

Is there a good season to send flowers to Cayenne?

Any month works, because the temperature barely moves — Cayenne sits only a few degrees north of the equator, warm and humid the whole year round. The rhythm is set by rain instead: a long wet season from roughly December to June, briefly interrupted by the short dry spell locals call the little March summer, then drier, brighter months from August to November. Florists here plan around humidity as a matter of habit, favouring sturdy tropical stems and composing everything on delivery day, so a birthday in the rains is celebrated just as easily as one in the dry season.

How does a bouquet actually reach Cayenne?

Not by air freight in a box — that is the point. Your arrangement is composed in Cayenne by a florist who knows the city's neighbourhoods, from the old centre around the Place des Palmistes and the shops of the Avenue du Général de Gaulle to the residential quarters toward Montabo and the beach communes beyond, and who understands that in this heat and humidity, flowers must be cut fresh and delivered promptly. Include a local phone number for the recipient; it makes delivery seamless, especially where apartment blocks and gated homes need a quick call ahead. Your gift message is delivered exactly as written, in French, English or Spanish.

We also deliver elsewhere in the territory — see flower delivery across French Guiana, including the space-launch town of Kourou and Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. Alongside cards, PayPal and Shop Pay, you can pay with Bitcoin at checkout.
